Colombia's first oil company
Ecopetrol engages in oil and gas exploration, production and refining; petrochemicals; and oil and gas transportation activities. The company is one of the four main petroleum companies in Latin America. Locally, it owns more than 90 oil fields in the Middle Magdalena Valley, Catatumbo, Meta, Casanare, Arauca, Vichada, Huila, Tolima, Putumayo, Nariño and Caquetá regions. In terms of natural gas, Ecopetrol has formed joint ventures to develop and operate Guajira (in partnership with Chevron) and Cusiana (with Equión and Sinochem Petroleum Exploration and Production) fields, and is the sole owner and operator of the Cupiagua field. Its assets also include the Barrancabermeja and Reficar refineries, where it produces a full range of refined products, including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and heavy fuel oils.
